Close Windows Mail.
Navigate to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft and move the Windows Mail folder
to your Documents folder.
Open Windows Mail and import your messages from Local Folders in the moved
store.

Steve, I went to the websit but not sure what to click on, guess I'm too
scared to click anything. Do I start with compact database or what?

S

Steve Cochran

Download the zip file where it says Download here (the link is
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/WMUtil.zip). Then extract both files to a
blank directory or just the Desktop. Then if you have a stuck message in
the Outbox, then click on the Clear Outbox and see what happens. It will
take some time, so just wait.

If the buttons are not clickable, then that means WinMail is running. Close
it and wait a few seconds. If they still aren't clickable, then do a
CTRL-SHIFT-ESC and look at the running processes and find WinMail.exe and
click on it and then click on the End process button. Then the buttons
should become clickable.

I hit the "clear outbox" key on your utility. How long should that process
take? It's been over 15 min. Could it be stuck?

G

when I hit "clear outbox" I get the following: Unable to load DLL
"scxout.dll". The application has failed to start because its side-by-side
configuration is incorrect (Exception from HRESULT:0x800736B1)
Any suggestions?

The zip file has two files in it. Extract both of them to the desktop or at
least to the same directory. Then click on the exe to run the program. It
will take some time if you have lots of messages, but it should give a
messagebox when its finished.

I'm still only getting to the same spot. Is there any properties settings
that I can adjust in the scxout.dll file?

S

Steve Cochran

No. Create a directory on the desktop. Copy the dll and the exe to that
directory. Open that directory and click on the exe and then see if it
works.

I downloaded the WMUtil file, however I obtain an error when trying to clear
outbox. It was unable to laod the DLL file, the Application failed to start
because the "side by side configuration is incorrect, any help on this?

G

Gary VanderMolen

When you download the file, be sure to choose Save rather than Run.
After it finishes downloading choose Run, then Extract. Then it will
show the extracted folder with two files in it. Run WMUtil.exe

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I can delete all in my folders except in my "Draft folder, I have tried all
the suggestions that have been offered, whats up?? I`m starting to dislike
Vista, I should have stayed with my XP !!!

G

Gary VanderMolen

At this point I would not go to extremes for an undeletable
message that is in any folder but the Outbox. The Outbox problem
can prevent all sending, which makes the email program practically
worthless. Stuck messages in other folders can be ignored.
As always, you should take measures to prevent additional stuck
messages by taking the antivirus advice that has been offered
here numerous times.

I understand not going to extreme's, however I use my email address with my
job--I NEED it to work properly. This is a brand new lap top. McAfee is gone
off of it. ONE message is stuck. One message that will not delete no matter
what I attempt to do.

I'm very discouraged and very unhappy with Vista, and like others on here, I
wish I had XP back, because the glitches are a constant with this.

I'm at my wits end over here

Gary, do you think this is an anti virus problem? My system is less than 2
weeks old, I have a new anti virus program.

G

Gary VanderMolen

You didn't say which folder the stuck message is in.

If you are unhappy with Windows Mail (and you have good cause to be),
you should switch to a different email program.
