Zonealarm affects hotmail ?

Gundam

I just installed ZoneAlarm PRO, and hotmail keeps going
back to the "Please re-enter Password" page !

Is this related to ZoneAlarm's settings? Does anyone
know which option I have to "allow" ?

Thanks

It has never happened to me and, for that matter, i can't recall having to
specifically allow hotmail. I would possible suggest that either the hotmail
server is busy and having problems with your password or else you may have
inserted your password incorrectly.
As an after thought i would imagine that hotmail comes under msn messenger
services - hence me not seeing a specific allow item. If you can log onto
windows messenger or msn messenger without any problem the problem must lie
with hotmails server.

Thanks... good points. MSN was logged on with no
problems... so what you said makes sense.

However, I can add, when I SHUTDOWN Zone Alarm, Hotmail
functions properly !! It could be conincidence, but I've
done it a few times (minutes or even hours apart) and same
behaviour occurs. So i doubt I'm catching Hotmail server
at "bad" times??

Maybe I am....

Have you checked the ZA control panel and looked at the settings in
Program Control?

As you are able to access hotmail when zone alarm has been disabled the only
thing that springs to mind is 'cookies' Hotmail needs to put a cookie on
your machine for you to access the site correctly. The only snag is i'm
currently using windows xp which, on my machine, runs blackice. Zone Alarm
is used on my windows 2003 server partition so i am unable to access zone
alarm.

Does Zone Alarm Pro have an adserver trap feature in it.
Hotmail currently uses adservers on it web page zones to
display ads for relevant items of interest for your account.
If ZAP is trapping these adservers, that could be why
Hotmail is not loading.

I sure hope that you turned the XP firewall ON (ICF) before
you reconnected to the Internet when you turned Zone Alarm
off.

Are you using the Hotmail web interface? I've been using
Outlook Express and the free version of ZA without any
problems.

Gundam, just another thought. Are you by any chance using the web filtering
option of ZA Pro? If so this may be a suspect. If you think about it the web
filtering stops access to relevant porn sites - hotmail = Hot. The Hot would
be in the filter library file so this may be what is stopping you accessing
hotmail. If web filtering is enabled then i suggest you diable it and see if
this solves the problem.
