Just guessing. Sometimes things get corrupted in a download.
Download the file twice. After the first download, clear your
Internet Explorer cache, then download the file again.
Once you have two files, you can them:
temp.exe and originalname.exe
run the following command at the DOS prompt.
fc /b temp.exe originalname.exe
This should get rid of any errors that might occur during the
downloading. If the files aren't reported as being identical,
then one of them is corrupted, and you'll need to clear the
Internet Explorer cache and download the file a third time.
Name the third download, temp2.exe... then you'll need to
compare temp2.exe with temp.exe and if they are identical
then it's the originalname.exe that is corrupt. You'll be able
to confirm this by comparing the files with the
fc (file compare) command. You HAVE to use the /b
switch to make sure that you get a binary comparison.
If that doesn't work, then another possible source of
corruption involves the actual installation routines. This occurs
about 100000 times less often as the corruption in a DL
occurs. It does happen though, and the way you'd get around
this is a bit more complicated, because you'll need to uninstall
the program, then delete the actual folder it was installed into,
then reinstall the program.
Hope that helps.
