Zone alarm and Windows XP

Installed the free version yesterday and when I booted
today, went into a loop... crashes, disc scans, couldn't
connect with internet, etc. Finally uninstalled Z.A. I
want to install it for cable modem, but don't want this
problem again. Has anyone had any experience or seen any
info re: this problem and how to avoid it? Thanks much.

cspz-

Windows XP has a built in Firewall, you really won't be needing Zone Alarm
(except to monitor outbound internet connections)! Check this link for more
info

http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/home/using/howto/homenet/icf.asp

I have determined that as long as I keep AV software updated and use the
ICF, ZA isn't necessary.

Good Luck!

Thank you very much... in my research, it appeared (on
the MS site in one of its Webcast transcripts) that there
are certain kinds of incoming issues which XP FW is
unable to block on its own. Here is the
site...http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=/servicedesks/webcasts/en/wc050702/wct050702.asp

So, I really don't know what to do and the cable comes
tomorrow.
Thanks...

Thanks very much, Wes. My problem is not how to
uninstall it, but how to reinstall it but avoid the
problems I had the first time. I did uninstall it; I can
certainly check all the places you suggested for any
remnants, but I am still concerned about reinstalling
it. The original downloaded file is still on my PC, but
I hesitate to execute it and be in the same mess again.

I have been using ZA, the cheapy version (Free) for quite a while without problems. The
problems I did have, which for $64,000 I could not remember, had to do with not reading the
instructions. I was not pointing you to how to uninstall but to the FAQ's. XP's Firewall is not
very good. For one thing it has no outbound capibility. ZA is better, if it's working, that is.
) Delete the download of ZA that you already have, maybe it's corrupted. Redownload and try to
install it again.
When you install it, make sure you are offline and have everything turned off that you can,
especially Anti Virus software. Ctrl + Alt + Del /Applications tab & Processes tab.

This is about what I have running when installing something, plus what install program.

I have XP pro. ZA(free) and ICF (XP's built in ) firewalls are running
parallel beautifully without any problem.

Additionally I advise to use NAV, SpywareGuard; install HOSTS file,
Domains(last).reg ; run weakly Ad-aware; and time by time check computer
with free services like Microsoft BSA, especially the ports with Symantec
and Sygate.

All the above together provided me reasonable safety and running smoothly
(all configured using excellent advices from experts of this newsgroup).
