Zip Folder support is gone

Hi,
Some time ago I installed Power Archiver because it handles multiple
(many) archive types. Well, during installation the thing associated itself
with .ZIP. I noticed that as a side effect (I would consider that abusing
the association) it not only associated .zip files with itself (Power
Archiver) but it made the default Windows "Archive to .Zip file" option in
the context menu to disappear!

I went to the program options (PA) and disabled its association with .ZIP.
Then following a tip I also used the regsrv (or something like that) to
register zipfldr.dll again. I had rebooted the system as well (this was many
weeks ago).

The problem is the support for Zip Folders seems to be gone anyway!. Here
are the issues:

1. Even though PA's association with the .ZIP file extension is ticked off,
whenever I click or open a zip file (for example via Internet EXplorer),
Power Archiver still comes up as the ZIP application! Before it was the
default Windows explorer Zip Folder.

2. Before installing this abusive program, while navigating using the
Windows Explorer I could invoke que context menu (right mouse click on any
folder) and select "Send To | Zip Folder". Well, that is gone too and never
came back even after re-registering zipfldr.dll.

Anybody has any ideas how to restore this behaviour?

Thx,
Emilio

Hi,

To change Program associations I usually do the following:

1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Click on Tools / Folder Options
3. Click on 'File Types' tab
4. Browse to ZIP entry (probably at end of list)
5. Highlight entry and click on 'Change' button
6. Browse to Winzip (usually under recommended options) - or look on web
shortcut

Tim

Emilio,

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.zip

In the right-pane, double-click (default) and set it's data as "CompressedFolder" (without ")

Close Registry Editor and run REGSVR32 ZIPFLDR command from Start/Run dialog.

Restart Windows for the changes to take effect.
