Hi,
This problem is minor but annoying and does not occur on my other XP Pro
machines.
Problem occurs using Windows XP Media Center Edition installed by Dell on
E310.
On a restricted user account(non-admin) the following occurs:
- open Explorer or My Computer
- right-click a folder -> Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folders
- pop-up Yes/No dialog offers the option to associate Zip files with the
Compressed (zipped) Folders application
- if I choose Yes, the folder gets zipped but the Compressed (zipped)
Folders option disappears from subsequent right-click/Send To attempts and
also disappears from the Send To folder for that user
- if I replace Compressed (zipped) Folders in the Send To folder the same
thing happens on the next attempt
- if I choose No, the folder gets zipped and the option remains for
subsequent right-click/Send To attempts, but I continue to receive the Yes/No
prompt to associate Zip files every time I choose this Send To opption
- either Yes or No results in the Zip files being associated with Compressed
(zip) Folders , i.e. if I right-click/Open a zip folder, it opens the
Compressed (zipped) Folders application.
On an admin account different behavior:
- open Explorer or My Computer
- right-click a folder -> Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folders
- pop-up Yes/No dialog offers the option to associate Zip files with the
Compressed (zipped) Folders application
- if I choose Yes or No the same results occur:the folder gets zipped and
the option remains for subsequent right-click/Send To attempts, but I
continue to receive the Yes/No prompt to associate Zip files every time I
choose this Send To opption
- either Yes or No results in the Zip files being associated with Compressed
(zip) Folders , i.e. if I right-click/Open a zip folder, it opens the
Compressed (zipped) Folders application.
I've scoured the web for mentions of this, learned all about the Send To
folder, but no mention of this little ditty.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Pat G.
