Zip not working

N

Nathan Gutman

I have WinXP Home. I want to create zip files. I am supposed to click
File>New>Compressed Folder but I don't see this option.
I used Send to>Compressed (zipped) Folder but it created a corrupted file
which WinXP could not open.
How do I get this to work?
BTW - WinXP does automatically open a zip file OK.

It may not be enabled:-

To Enable:
1) Start Menu > Run
2) Type: regsvr32 %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll

Thanks for the input. zipfldr.dll installed ok. When going to File>New there
is no option to create a compressed(zipped) folder.
I could do it though using "Send to".
Created on C:\ a 4gb zip file.
Tried to open it in Windows and got:
"Compressed (zipped) Folder invalid or corrupted".
Tried to open it with CAMUnzip and got:
"This is the first disk in a backup set. Please insert the last disk of this
set."
So what is going on? Why can't WinXP simply create a usable zip folder? Is
there a limit to the size of the zipped folder?
Thanks for any help.

Personally I use Winzip (an older version - 9)

WinZip had a free version and now they want money. I wonder if any other
good zip programs are out there free of charge.
Too bad that WinXP is so clumsy with zipping.

Did you try googling?

A quick search bought up these:-
http://free-backup.info/free-winzip.html
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nulifetv/freezip/

There are plenty around.
