Does Win XP with SP2 have a built-in program for decompressing .zip files?
Hate to invest 30 bucks for Winzip.

It is getting to the point that if someone sends you a .zip file compressed
with WinZip, you "may" need the same program to decompress the file.

Excerpt from the following page link: "Windows XP has basic built-in zip
capability so that you can compress files by using the Compressed (zipped)
Folder feature. Folders compressed by using this feature are identified by a
zippered folder icon."

Yes XP will unzip files natively.

You know though, that the investment in Winzip has been one of the
best ones I ever made. I bought it when it was at version 1 years
ago. Winzip does not believe in charging you for upgrades. Once you
buy it all upgrades from then on out are free. I have never had to
pay anything for a Wnzip upgrade.

They are now charging for upgrades starting with version 10.

Well that is a bunch of crap for sure. I need to go through all my
old paperwork. I know it says in it that you will never be charged
for an upgrade. If I find it, I will defenitely be sending them a
copy and saying I want my Winzip 10 free.

Versions 1 thru 9 and never paid an upgrade fee. Now they want to
charge one. (Even though they say that you can upgrade for 50% off)
