Zip Drive

I slicked my hard drive and installed a new copy of
Windows XP (i was previously running W2K SP3). I applied
all updates and service pak. My problem is that my Iomega
internal zip drive (100 mg). When i insert my disk and
try to access it I receive a dialog box tellimg me that I
need to format the disk. When I respond yes, it tells me
I'm unable to format it. I found an article on KB
(303661) that says that this is because XP thinks the
internal zip drive is a hard drive and the only solution
is to reinstalled XP. THAT SUCKS!!! Let me add that
when I view my drives under My Computer, the zip shows
removable. I attempted to uninstall the device under
device manager but it did not work (it uninstalled, but
after reboot it was back). I would greatly appreciate
any help or suggestions that anyone might have regarding
this. I've just reinstalled all my programs and I really
don't want to reinstall XP.

Thanks in Advance:)

For any of you who have this problem DON'T follow the KB
article. The problem was that XP did indeed think that
my internal iomega zip drive was another hard drive. I
uninstalled the drivers to my zip drive. I then went to
iomega's site and downloaded the tools for XP O/S for my
hardware. I installed the software, rebooted and wala!
my zip drive was recognized as what it was. Now, if I
had followed the KB article that is referenced below I
would have spent hours (MS states in the article that
prior to reinstalling XP you will need to disconnect the
ZIP drive) doing this. Shame on you, MS for dis-
information.
