Zip drive problem!!

B

Brian

I have a IBM ThinkCenter windows XP system, with a Iomega Zip Drive IDE
250MB installed.
If I put a zip disk in and write to it then eject by right clicking on the
drive in my computer. The disk ejects I can put it back in and read and
write to it again.

However, if I write the disk, wait till the writing has finished and eject
the disk by using the button on the zip drive. The disk ejects. I put the
disk back in and the system is unable to read the disk and keeps asking me
to insert disk into the drive.

The problem only happens when you eject using the button on the drive. I
have to reboot the system in order to use the drive again. I can read/write
to the drive all the time if I eject by right clicking on the drive in my
Computer.

I have swapped out the zip drive and replaced it with another. Same Problem.
Anyone have any ideas how to solve this.

Yes. Stop hitting the eject button on the drive.

Have you installed the latest Iomega updates? You should probably check the
Iomega web site Technical Support page for the Error message.

I suspect that XP is not treating this as a removeable drive, but rather
as a "fixed" drive. Consequently, unless you eject it from within XP --
letting XP KNOW that it's going to be ejected -- I suspect that there is
information -- critical information -- not being written to the media.

There may be a way to tell XP that this is a removeable device and that
it needs to be treated as such (there are such choices in 98, and I
believe in XP also, but I have not investigated it that deeply).

Unrelated comment: Zip disks are a seriously obsolete technology.

Have you tried going to your Zip drive in Explorer, right click the Zip
drive and choose Eject from the drop down menu?
