zip drive/disc problem

Windows 2000 was recently installed on my personal
computer. Works great! But there's a major problem with
the zip drive that is really baffling......

When trying to use the zip drive to copy/save data, after
processing for a few minutes (large download, like 68MB):

Get error messages such as.................

"The disc in the destination drive is full. Insert a new
disc to continue"

"Disc is full, insert new disc"

"Windows was unable to save all the data for the
file/device/Harddisc1]DP(1)0-0+3]filexxxx.ext. The data
has been lost. This error may have been caused by a
failure iof your computer hardware or network connection.
Please try to save this file elsewhere."

"Cannot copy server. The request could not be performawed
because of an I/O device error"

The discs are NOT empty. I get these messages when the
disc is only half full. If at that point, I replace the
zip disc with a new one, I'll get the next "disc is full"
error meassage after copying only 2 or 3 MB of data to the
next (clean) disc!

Here's what we've done to fix it: (1) tried new discs, 100
formatted. (2) replaced the zip drive TWICE (3)
reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled windows from
scratch. And several combinations of this! All to no
avail.

Somehow, I think we have a problem that has to do with
Windows set up...........

ANY ideas are really appreciated!
