zero updates on pc

Hi- I want to help someone get their pc in order-I dont think that she has
ever had a windows update downloaded and installed. I have been doing lots to
rid her pc from spyware- SHould I eliminate as much spyware/viruses on her pc
before:
1-before installing ZA free version?
2-before installing AVG?
3-before installing any patches or updates at windows web site?
She still has sp1 of course, should I just install sp2 instead of all the
downloads needed for sp1??
ANy help is needed.

Get rid of all the viruses and spyware first..with whatever programs you
choose.
There's no need to update SP1 if you are about to install SP2 as it contains
all fixes from day 1.

Get a firewall and anti virus running *NOW*!

Get rid of the crapware and virii before installing any updates.

SP2 can have problems if installed with crapware on the machine.

XP SP2 includes all the SP1 updates, so don't worry about those.

Clean the computer of viruses and spyware before installing SP-2.
There is no need to install updates also included in SP-2.

Follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist to install SP-2:

Then install any remaining Critical Updates.
