"You don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation"

I am a single user who just upgraded to Outlook 2003. I can compose & send
new messages, but when I click on the Send/Receive button, I get the above
error message. I am signed onto my computer as the administrator, but I
cannot change any settings on Outlook; when I look at my Inbox' properties &
click on the Administration tab, all areas are greyed out.

Please help!

I am not sure if you ever got an answer to this issue. I had this
happen last night and have been able to correct it. I believe that
mine came from unistalling McAffee antivirus and somehow all the files
in my main directory (E:\\...) got changed to read only. I was able to
fix it without any issues but you want to proceed at your own caution
as I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. Here is what
I did.

1. open my computer
2. open the drive that MS offis installed in (E for me)
3. use the key stroke Control "A" to select all files in the folder
4. right click on one file and select properties
5. on the general tab at the bottom there is a button that says read
only.
6. It canbe check, boxed, or empty - you want to make it empty (or
unchecked).
7. click ok
8. when prompted select all subfolders...
9. the computer will make all files editable
10. while it is changing the files you will get a message that say it
cannot change some of the folders to editable.
11. Select ignore all

When you go back into to look at the folder it will be blocked meaning
that some of the files are read only and some are not. Since I have
done this I have had nto problems. It is really a lot easier than I
describe above but I think that pretty explicit directions really help.
Hope this works for you. The alternative is to reboot windows and
reinstall all software which is a lot od head for this issue.
