Whenever I run a program thats a bit heavy on the CPU (i.e.: AVG), my PC
shuts down. It just started this a few hours ago

My Power Management is set to "Always On", and the fans are running.

Sounds like it's overheating to me. Have you checked your cooling?

Last night the fan was blowing out warm air. Today, it's blowing out cool
air (so far).

The fan is a chasis fan. A heatsink won't fit because of where the CPU is.
If you've seen inside a Dell Dimension 2350, you know what I'm talkin'
about.

Could also be a failing power supply.

How about more details about the PC (CPU speed/type, etc.)
