yet another dvd-rom problem

Z

so, i'm getting ready to re-format and re-install xp pro
on my compy, but after a bad install that prompted this,
i'm a little paranoid about lossing more data. so, i
shutdown, and open it up, and disconnect my data hard
drive. i also changed the jumper sequence in my dvd-rom
from slave to master, and my dvd-rw from master to slave.

so now, after trying to boot the computer that way, and
discovering i had to change the jumper sequence on the
remaining hard drive to boot with only a single hard
drive, i began to have problems detecting my dvd-rom
drive. i messed with the jumper settings, but i still
can't detect the dvd-rom drive, even with the bios.

so, i reluctently changed my jumpers back to the original
settings, and reconnected the second hard drive.

Which brings me to my problem. everything is back to the
old settings, all jumpers back, and everything plugged
back in.

but, i still can't detect the dvd-rom drive.

i should mention that is a brand new msi 16xdvd-rom
drive. it could be defective, but one thing at a time.

Any thoughts.

As always, any help is appreciated.

Much love!
