Yellow 'Warning' Triangle in Taskbar

After having logged on (I've Broadband so am automatically connected to the
Internet) this irksome triangle with an exclamation mark inside appears on my
taskbar. Whne I click on it I get a list of urls advertising in the main porn
and dating sites.

I'm sure it has something to do with viruses, hijackers, etc but I have
tried everything to get rid of it but to no avail. Can anyone help?

What Security tools do you have running on your computer ?
By that I mean which Anti-Virus & Firewall - which provide
Real Time protection. Also, you need a cocktail of Malware
tools that includes AdAware, SpyBot, CW Shredder and the
Microsoft AntiSpyware application.
It's a process that uses a number of different approaches. 1st
you have to rid your machine of any "Baddies" already present.
Then you have to harden the security, to prevent re-infestation.
Using TaskMgr, you can isolate the process that is responsible
for the icon you describe. There are a few on-line scans that
might help you to "Catch" your particular "Baddie".
If you're using Broadband you can adjust IE (assumption) to
empty the TIF cache when each IE session is completed. I
would also override the default Cookie handling. As a starting
point, I would run Panda's Activescan. It does a good job of
finding viruses and "Baddies" that some other AV/Scanners
tend to miss. It requires a ActiveX component and a User ID
process to access the Scan.

what is that "everything" you have done thus far? have you scanned your
computer with several spyware scanners like microsoft antispyware, spybot
and ad-aware? scanning with only one scanner is not enough. none of
available scanners detects all nasties. i assume you have also up-to-date
virus scanners. last thing to do is to use hijackthis and post report to
newsgroups where specialists analyze it. use google with "hijackthis" to get
some links to start with.

I have Norton Anti-virus software and Personal Firewall running. I also run
Spybot and Ad Aware - but these are not getting rid of this irritating
triangle. If it goes on much longer I might have to do a full system restore
from the start-up disk - it's that s
