yellow shield on toolbar&can`t view on desk top

It says when holding pointer over it that updates are being downloaded.But
weather i right or left click on it nothing happens.Very slow and i`m
susspicious.

That is normal for "downloading updates" If you check periodically, you will see the % change.

As Richard pointed out, it's the download progress. Once finished, you will
then be given the option to install the updates via either Express or Custom.
Choose Custom and select only the updates you want.
