yellow bands on HP 3200C

I have an HP3200C scanner, have hardly used it. But the last time I
did, 2-3 years ago, it was fine. Just took it out and plugged it in
again. Now I see yellow bands over 10-20% of the area of the scan,
both in preview and in saved images.

Is this fixable? The manual says they don't support users opening it
up, even to clean it inside, but as it's well out of warranty that's
not a problem.

I found a page that offers a solution.

One question though. He says "Use a good glass cleaner on a paper
towel and gently wipe as much of the bulb..."
What is a "good glass cleaner"? (Not so much a brand, which I might
not be able to find here, but containing what?)

I have old HPIIcx's.
Have done the clean the mirror thing any number of times.
Used rubbing alcohol. The 91% kind.
