yamaha ac-xg audio device problem

Hi

this is my first time here, pl help in fixing this prob.
I downloaded critical windows updates to my XP
professional, now my sound is not working. Yamaha sites
says to chk with pc manufacturer, microsoft and Sony says
the same. I am going in circles. I have a Sony VAIO and
the driver for the audio device is 'yacxgc.sys'. is it
safe to download the generic driver download from yamaha?

i'm sure you fixed it by now. I just encountered the same problem and i found the new hardware at http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?FID=TRO0000001b59
however when i rebooted after installing service pack 1 and it warned me not to install old yamaha driver or system instability would happen, I installed it anyway and now when i patch in the updated driver, xp does not recognize my yamaha device and thusly no sound? Any chance you know what to do?

In the Device Manager, find the entry for the soundchip.

Click on it.

From the Driver tab.... click on DRIVER ROLLBACK
