How do I REMOVE the 'Yahoo Internet Mail' program from Internet Explorer?
I've tried using 'Add/Remove Programs' but it wont do anything. Every time I
click on 'Change/Remove' it wont do anything.

In the Internet Options control panel (Tools\Internet Options menu), on the
Programs tab there are options to choose the default program for mail. As
well as the option for Yahoo Internet mail, there should also be other
options for you to choose from such as Outlook or Outlook Express.

If you don't have these options you can install Outlook Express mail from
your windows disk.
Add/Remove Programs.... Windows components.

The Yahoo Internet Mail would have been installed along with either the
Yahoo Toolbar or Yahoo Messenger. Removing these from your computer should
have removed the mail options also. But no worries, you can leave it there
and just choose a different mail client.

Thanks. It was installed by Yahoo Messenger 6, though I didn't want it, then
I upgraded to Yahoo Messenger 7 and since then it wont remove, even though
I've reinstalled 6 (after removing 7 first) and removed it it still wont
budge even though it says it's installed in 'Add Or Remove Programs', every
time I click on 'Change/Remove' it wont do anything. Suppose I'll leave it
there then. Thanks anyway.

The next time that you install Yahoo! Messenger, if you are still so
inclined, do not use the standard install. Use the custom install. This
will present you with a number of pre-selected options (except for the
messenger client, itself). Uncheck all options which you do not want
installed. I unchecked all selectable options when I went through the
drill.

"Standard" install will install every component that comes with the Yahoo!
Messenger by default.

"Custom" install will allow you to remove those components that you don't
want to be installed from the install list.

IMHO, that is exactly backwards of the way things should be; the "Standard"
install should be minimal, and the "Custom" install should be for adding
additional features; alas, Yahoo! is a marketing tool for advertisers, so
they install the most features which allow advertisers to reach your eyes.

When I installed Yahoo Messenger 6 I did do the custom option and like you
said, I unchecked everything but the necessary. Upgraded to Messenger 7
(doing the same) and found it a bit unsteady so uninstalled it completely,
apart from this stupid Yahoo Internet Mail, and now I'm finding my Windows
Explorer & Control Panel wont remember their settings. Can anyone help?

In addition to what I posted earlier I just found this bit of info:
http://www.chaoszone.org/when/2004/06/707
"Yahoo Messenger 6 is now bloatware, piggyback-ware (it installs several
Yahoo tie-ins, like Yahoo Internet Mail and Yahoo Autocomplete even when
these are unchecked in Messenger Installer Options) and vampire-ware
(refuses to die: removing Yahoo Internet Mail was an ordeal because it did
not respond to UnRegisterServer during uninstallation - I had to waste 5
minutes driving regedit stakes through its heart). You've been warned, stay
away. Until Yahoo cleans up its installer act, version 5.6 should work quite
well."
