xtreamlok - how to remove

P

Patrick Glenn

I have the very annoying "xtreamlok" application on my PC and very much
would like to remove it. I have tried removing its "associated" EXE file,
have remove all references from my registry, and similar, but no matter what
I cannot get rid of it. I do not know how it was installed (I suspect
either via my ATI/MMC install or else via KAZAA).

It seems about every 9th or 10th video file I play now brings up this app to
prevent viewing and close the current app. I dont see any relation between
playing a "bootleg" video, a real video, or a video that I have created, it
seems to occur equally on any. I even get this while viewing an occasion
website.

I am running XP professional 2002, with ATI AIW7500, and various video
players and drivers, any of which may have installed this crap. I prefer to
not start from scratch, there must be a way to remove this app.

any help and suggestions will be appreciated,

Patrick Glenn

You've had this for a while haven't you ?

Take a look in your services list.

Maybe something to do with Symantec ?

I have looked in the SERVICES and there is nothing "xtream" related there.
As for Symantec, I am not currently running any (known) version of a
symantec or norton program (I did have norton 'demo' firewall running but
let it lapse), but I do have the following services running:
- Symantec Core LC
- Symantec Event Manager
- Symantec Password Validation
- Symantec Event Notification

Isn't this some stupid anti-copy software that they put on DVD's?

You put the disc into your PC to watch (or copy) and Windows autoruns the
installer but doesn't tell you that it's happening. Once that's done the
protection software runs in the background making sure you don't steal
stuff.

Look into your Add/Remove programs and remove all Symantec stuff.
Liveupdate, internet security e.t.c. Failing that, set those 4 services to
disabled.
