xpsp2 from majorgeeks.com problems

the only problem I have noticed so far is using the desktop web content
window. I normally have a local htm file on my desktop. its a to do list to
remind me of appointments, passwords and bill payment dates. I edit it
myself. but since I tried this beta service pack all I get is a white square
that turns grey when I don't have the cursor over it. I tried other html
files, deleted all the desktop items from the list and put them back in, no
luck. any ideas?

Did you try the SP2 newsgroups:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/xpsp2.htm
That is the best source for SP2 information.

It also amazes me why people will go to 3rd parties to get what they
could get directly from the source.
Major geeks may be reliable, but I can not see any good reason to get
it from anywhere but from the source especially when it is readily
available.

NEVER download service packs or any critical updates from any site except
ours.
You have no guarantee that what you are getting is the real patch or file
you require.
If you are interested in testing SP2 for Windows XP start here.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/sp2preview.mspx
for download location, documentation and the correct location of newsgroups
to post your problems to.

What practical reason is there to even mess with a beta version
anyway(unless your a beta tester of course), Why not wait until MS releases
it to the general public(in June, I think) and then use it. At least then if
it messes with your system you can badmouth MS all you want.

I am certainly not badmouthing the sp2, I was asking if there is a fix for
the problem, I would like to know how to get back web content on my desktop?

As was already stated, you are asking the incorrect newsgroup.
As well as using a possibly stolen copy when you should have gotten it
directly from the source.
There are no guarantees with an RC and far less guarantees when it is
acquired from an unauthorized source.

Uninstall the SP2, then download from Microsoft and install.

oky dokes, these groups were killing my outlook express anyway, there are
far too many headers to download and for some reason memory handling after
200,000 headers seems to crash express. that and the 3 other similar groups.
