XPHome:Quick Launch taskbar loses settings after crash and reboot

Lately, after a crash, I've noticed the Quick Launch icons disappear and the
'Show Quick Launch' checkbox in Start/Settings/Taskbar is unchecked. On
restoring QL all the icons are jammed in a small area to one side of the
taskbar. The icons are also scrambled, not in the order I previously put
them.

I can fix all this manually, but after the next crash it's all down the toob
again.

Any help much appreciated.
