XP ZIP utilities

My XP ZIP utility is broke, and I have no info to fix it.

It worked fine until I had to install WinZip 10 to extract some TAR files.
Now that I've uninstalled WinZIP, the XP ZIP utility does not work, and I
have no info, not even the application name to get it going again.

You could try this:

To Enable:

1) Start Menu > Run

2) Type:

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll

To restore the Windows XP Zip file integration quickly, type this command
from Start, Run dialog:

REGSVR32 ZIPFLDR.DLL

If that does not help, another command is required to change the .ZIP
association. Type in Start, Run:

cmd /c assoc .zip=CompressedFolder

Not that this helps, but next time you need to do TAR files use winrar
and when you install it, it will give you a list of file associations,
just uncheck the zip, cab and iso and use winrar for the rest. That
way XP will still do the zips.
