"Windows has blocked access" to zip files

Don

I am using Win XP Pro with service pack 2 and all updates installed.

Windows will no longer open or extract zip files - the dialog box says
"Windows has blocked access to these files to help protect your computer".

I have right clicked the zip files, selected properties, and clicked on the
"unlock" button. Windows still does not open the file, with the same error.
But the "unlock" button is no longer available if I select properties a
second time.

This problem has only recently reared up. In the past zip files opened and
extracted properly within Windows Explorer. I liked that feature so much
that I no longer use Winzip, but I will install that if it solves the
problem.

Can any one help me to disable this behavior?

Thanks!

I remember reading about this a while ago.
It may be related to some setting in Outlook, or Outlook Express, about not opening
attachments.
If you use either of those programs, look through any attachment options.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but maybe this'll point you in the right direction...

If you have Windows Defender B2 installed that could be causing the
problem - others have reported the same probem. I understand that
there is no fix yet.

Thanks, John. I do have the B2 installed, so that answers the question.

Now - I'll hope this is corrected in the B3!!
