XP, XP Pro & DSL modems

The XP (Pro) firewall is not allowing my dsl modem to
connect or work. It shows it is enabled but will not
connect. If I disable the firewall a virus can have
access again. Any ideas? I am at a total loss and no one
at verizon DSL can help since it is an XP issue?

To my knowledge XP's firewall only stops incoming traffic and does nothing
with outbound traffic.
You problem must be somewhere else.

You must disable firewall on your Ethernet adapter, and enable it on PPPoE
connection (Broadband Connection) instead.
