I thought it could, Kurt, but apparently mis-remembered. Nobody's
perfect :-) Feel free to put me next to Carey, if you feel the need
<G>

Hey, after my wild goose chase trying to see if it would work on you say
so, you might just end up next to Carey! :)

Just Joking. Everyone is entitled to make mistakes from time to time.
Actually, it can be a good thing on occasion. I've always learned more
from my mistakes than from being right.

Doug, thanks for being a lighning rod in this discussion! Hope your hair is
OK. <G>
To add fuel to the fire (and lacking a DVD recorder), what do we make of
this statement from "Windows XP Inside Out":
"Back up to a CD or DVD
Windows XP Backup Utility does not support backing up directly to CD or DVD
recorders. However, if you plan your backups carefully, you can accomplish
the same goal in a two-step process. Back up to a file first, and then copy
that backup file to a recordable CD or DVD. If you need to restore data from
your backup set, you can do so directly from the CD or DVD. For this
procedure to work, you must ensure that you have enough free disk space to
hold your backup files; you also have to plan your backups so that the
resulting backup files will fit onto the target media. If you’re backing up
to CDs, for example, this might entail reorganizing your backup sets into
multiple groups, with each one under 650 MB in size."
True or false?

Ah. Ouch.

For CD's, there's no problem. For DVD's, it could be a documentation error. Or it could be an assumption that anyone with a DVD drive has some type of software to create data DVD's installed.

Actually, you are better off not being able to spell it. The couple of
time I did, the posts ended up getting pulled from the server.

And it seems as if he has taken down his "Peanut Gallery" for over a

You appear a bit confused. XP will treat a DVD writer just like a CD
writer. And, in that context, the DVD writer will only write to CDs.
That's as far as it goes. Writing to a DVD ***Media*** is beyond XP's
built-in capabilities. Whether the media is + or - has no bearing in that
statement. Whether UDF, or ISO 9660 format has no bearing either. Whether
the DVD writer is +/-, dual layer capable has no bearing either.

XP will treat a DVD just like a CD. If its DVD-R, you can write it once.
If its DVD-RW, you can write to it, but you can't add things after that.

Right click the DVD drive in Windows Explorer, select Properties, Recording.
Ensure that recording is enabled. After that, right click on the file(s)
that you want to copy to DVD and select Send To (drive letter of the DVD
drive). Once you've selected all the files, right click the DVD Drive in
Windows Explorer and select Write these files..........

And he has already apologized for any confusion he caused.
