I installed XP (upgrade from 98SE) about two months ago.
Have had few problems with it.
Recently however, I decided to try to run my Norton
Systemworks 2003. I was advised through a connection to
the symantec site which was called up by an error that
occurred during my attempt to use SWorks.
Advice was to uninstall Systemworks and reinstall. I
tried to do that. But at about the same time, XP began to
refuse to Shutdown or Restart. I did notice that the
desktop icons flickered when I attempted shutdown as they
used to do when Shutdown worked normally.
Next, found that simply pressing the computer's off
switch momentarily, after attempting normal shutdown,
would go ahead and cause what seems to be normal
shutdown. At next startup, there is no call to check the
hard drive.
Any thoughts on how to fix Shutdown. I tried doing a
reinstall of XP from the CD. That didn't fix it.
