XP won't restart

Can't restart my Windows XP. All I get is the blue screen with the XP logo
and a cursor. No window to put in my password. Have tried booting in safe
mode .. safe mode with networking .. safe mode with command promp .. and
last known good configuration. All give me the same blue screen - dead end
results. Also can't shut down without holding in the start/off button. Have
tried unplugging unit and even though it has been off it immediately starts
to boot as soon as I plug it back in. Any ideas? I hate to have to restore
from CD and lose everything .. unless that's the only solution. Any help is
appreciated.

Hi

Dependent on which type XP CD you have - if none of the options you have
already tried allows you access to Windows - you can try a 'Repair' install
of XP. A 'Repair' install of XP will keep your files, programs and settings
in place. Please have a look at the following article by Michael Stevens.

"How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install"
