XP won't read data cd burned on Vista

I burned some documents and word processing files onto a cd using Windows
Vista. The burn was good as I was able to call up the files from the cd
drive. I then tried to access the files on a computer running XP. The disc
read as completely blank, showing all 700MB or so as free space. I went back
to my Vista computer and burned the content onto a new cd using Nero
software instead of the bundled Vista program. That disc is not being
recognized by the XP system either. I really need access to these files from
the computers running XP! Please help!

Are you CD R or RW discs? Many RW disks written on one computer can not be
read on another computer with a different brand of CD drive.
I have not had any problems with CD-R disks between XP and Vista systems.
Can you read a CD written on the XP machine on the Vista machine?

I have the same problem. I have a DVD that was burnt using VISTA. It works
on other computers with vista and in my dvd player. Yet it will not work in
either of my computers with XP. I have tried the DVD in several of my
friends players and it also doesn't work if they have XP.

I went online thinking that OF COURSE microsoft would know of this problem
and have a fix for it, but so far I haven't found anything useful. The only
thing I find is this threat copied onto several other websites. It's so
frustrating!

XP needs a decoder.
Such as http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder.html.

Use mastered instead of live format.

Curious

A DVD decoder such as the one you referenced is used to play DVDs or TV
programs recorded in MPEG2 compressed format. It is not required for data
files.

I also said use mastered format.
I have no idea what they burned to DVD.
Unless you are my mother...move on, idiot.

Maybe you used the Live File System format...
the Mastered format would be been the better
choice.

Have a look at the following articles:

I know what you said but a DVD Decoder such as the NVIDIA DVD decoder is
not an example of what you seem to know is required and the link you
supplied is no longer active since Nvidia no longer sells it and when they
did the also stated that it should not be used with Vista since it was
designed and implemented only for MCE 2005.
I suggest that you respond to this with a recommended product and active
link to a product that does support "Mastered format instead of Live format"
so that readers of this thread know what will work instead of being led
astray.

Just how friggen stupid are you.
Trying to prove a point ?
I just installed mine on XP, and it works.
It is not meant for the Vista machine...but the XP one.
Take a friggen nap !

You suck at PC's like most of the morons at best buy.

People get stuck with morons like you.

I said "such as" and if you think I'm gonna hunt for every f-kin answer,
you got a check ?

Move on...fag !

I'm in XP now, and I could still buy it.
Back to Best Buy for you.
Tell other idiots how much you know.

Since this is a Vista newsgroup I assumed the user was using Vista
I will admit that I have been responding to the OPs origional problem and
not to moonstasz hijacking of this thread.
I have the Nvidia XP decoder on my system also and can install it also. But
when I tried the link you provided it was no longer available.
From the following link it appears that the selection of Mastered vs live
format is a function available to DVD burning software on vista and has
absolutely nothing to do with the decoding software.
Hopefully both the OP and Moonstaz will check out the following link for a
solution to their problem.

1...then respond to the OP, not me idiot.
2...the OP is using VISTA...but the DVD won't work on XP.
3...the link works.
4...if the DVD the OP attempted on a """"DVD PLAYER"""" did not work on XP,
a decoder problem surely comes to the minds of none best buy employees.
5...if its a data DVD, then my original "mastered" format selection still is
correct....so you still are an idiot.
6...You are a moron for trying Sackboy's patience.

Sackboy...you destroyed that Best Buy employee.

Yeah..I know.

You get what you get at best buy...teenagers that know squat.
It's too funny.

Wanna get smacked around some more ?
Come on curious....show your dimwitted age.

Do your XP PCs have DVD readers? Sounds like they only have CD-ROM drives.
