XP won't ask what to do when new disk is inserted

I'm running XP Home with a CD burner and a regular CD player drive. I've
checked the control panel for the properties of both and everything is set
the way I want. If I insert any kind of disk it is supposed to ask me what
I want to do. For the last few days, however, it doesn't ask me anything
when I insert a disk. It doesn't matter if the disk is blank, a
pre-recorded music CD or a disk full of photos.

I tried setting each drive to automatically play a music CD if it is
inserted, but the music doesn't start. I can play the music if I open Media
Player 9 and access it through the playlist, but how do I restore that
pop-up window of choices? I've tried searching MS help, but it just tells
me to check the settings and I've already done that.

Many thanks for any help someone can give me.

Autorun is not enabled on the drive. Check help and support for information
on enabling this.
