XP wants to install another printer driver everytime printer is connected

I have viewed many versions of this question in the XP NG but I
haven't seen anything that helps me out.

Win XP Prof SP1, Canon BJC-85 using usb.

Starting fresh with no printer drivers installed I run the XP driver
setup from the Canon CD that came with the BJC-85. Printer driver
installs ok and I can print.
If I unplug the printer from the usb and plug in a totally different
BJC-85 printer, XP installs another copy of the driver.
Every time I plug in a totally different BJC-85 printer, XP istalls a
driver.

By the way, when XP detects the BJC-85, the driver is installed and I
have no opportunity to change any settings about the install. XP just
installs it.

I am hoping someone will tell me how I can install the BJC-Driver once
so I can confiure it and then I don't want XP to ever install another
instance of the BJC-Driver. I just want XP to use the driver that I
install.

Thank you

Why do you keep disconnecting and reconnecting another BJC-85 printer? When
you install a driver for XP the printer has to be disconnected from the
computer untill driver install is finished and then XP will prompt to
connect printer.....
The printer driver has to be XP compatible....

You're doing everything the wrong way round. You MUST install the software
BEFORE connecting the printer.

Disconnect the printer....

Follow the instructions at
http://www.coribright.com/Windows/Article One.htm

Install the software BEFORE reconnecting the printer.... the software tells
you when to connect.

If you MUST keep disconnecting and then reconnecting the printer (and I have
no idea why you would wish to do so unless it's a notebook you're connecting
it to)... USE THE SAME USB port!
