If turn off the firewall, can you ping each other by IP?If yes, can you ping each other by name?

Paul,

Windows Vista is similar to Windows XP, but the differences will get you. Have
you tried posting your question in the Vista Networking newsgroup "microsoft.
public. windows. vista . networking_sharing"?

Or you're welcome to start with my Vista troubleshooting guide.

Hi
Most Wireless cards that were manufactured up to a year ago do not have
drivers that are compatible with Vista.
Make sure that your Wireless card is correctly recognized by Vista (look at
the device manger). If it does not installed correctly try to find Vista
drivers. If you can not find drivers you need to get a new card that is
compatible with Vista.

IMHO, in no way can going to Vista from XP be regarded as an upgrade. XP is
a mature OS with huge hardware and software application support. This will
no doubt come to Vista, but it is not the situation at this time. Wait
until Vista SP1 at least.
