XP user logon/switching

I messed up and I'm not even sure how.

I was installing a new sound card and was messing around with the
drivers and the sound troubleshooter.

But now my Windows logon screen has changed and I don't know how/where
to reset it. The problem is that I'm not even very sure how to describe
the problem or what to search on.

Usually when my computer boots up, there is a pane with icons for each
defined user. When I want to shutdown a pane comes up with icons for
Standby, Shutdown and Restart.

Now I get a logon screen similar to Windows 2000, where one has to type
in the user name and password. Also when shutting down, I now have to
select from a drop-down list.

What setting has changed and how can I change it back?

Thanks
MikeB

If you ever manage to need to reset lost or forgotten login pass
Active@ Password Changer can help. The small tool will reset
password in no time. It helped me before so give it a quick glance.

L0phtCrack is/was popular as well - but I couldn't find the link quickly
