Startup/logon screen

On my desktop computer I have a weird problem. It has now happened
with two applications I tried installing. Other applications don't
cause this to happen.

The applications (one was D-link's wireless config utilities, the
other a VPN application) cause my Windows XP Pro SP3 system to revert
the logon screen from the normal one with the user icons on the right
to the "classic" login pane that pops up and one has to type the
userid of a user to log in.

I "fixed" it the first time round by uninstalling the D-Link Wireless
config utilities, but I can't uninstall the VPN application - I need
it.

Any advice/hints on what could make the login screen flip and how to
restore it without uninstalling the application that cause this to
happen?

Thanks.

Hi Mike,

This has to do with added Client Services (Netware) added via VPN....

Right click My Network Places and select Properties. Right click the
Internet connection in question, or LAN connection, and select Properties.
On the Networking tab, This connection uses...highlight Client Services for
Netware and select Uninstall.

Kelly, thanks for responding.

So I *have* to uninstall something? There isn't just an option to get
the regular WinXP login screen back?

Do you have some background information that can explain this? Why is
WinXP working this way? Is there something in the MS support base that
I can read up on?
