xp upgrade

When upgrading from 98 to xp modem(hsp56mr)and sound (via
ac 97)need additional files to work in xp.How can I obtain
these files.Please help as I am new to computers.

You need to go to the web site for your devices and download the proper
drivers for XP.

You will have to get XP drivers for the modem and sound card. Look on
HP's site for updated drivers. If there are none, the easiest thing to
do will be, frankly, to just uninstall HP's proprietary hardware
software and buy a new sound card and modem. You can get each of those
items for around $20 usd or even less.
