XP Upgrade hangs duing final Installation

I'm trying to conduct an upgrade from Windows 98 2nd
edition to Windows XP Pro. The system hangs with 19
minutes left during the Final Installation phase. This
happens when "Upgrading Program and System Settings".

Any Feedback?

I had this happen on my Compaq update from 2000 to XP. I had to format and
start over. You have backups, anyway..right? Please note that the W98
backup utility is not compatible with the XP backup utility..
