XP upgrade from Win98 cab files?

Lee

I have only the Win98 cab files I saved from my old PC. I can't find the
CD.

Will I be able to install the "upgrade" version of Windows XP Home?

Thanks.

Hi Lee,

I am assuming you have the contents of the Win98 folder
from the original CD burned to another CD! If so browse
to this folder to satisfy the compliance check during the
install. Is this a clean install or are you upgrading over Win98?

I had the contents of the Win98 on my hard disk and copied the files to
another CD before the hard disk failed. I will be doing a clean install.

No. The Windows XP Upgrade CD needs to find the Windows 98
license which is not in the .cab files. You'll need to purchase a
"Full Version" of Windows XP.

Or he can buy a copy of Windows 98 plus an Upgrade copy of
Windows XP. That combination should be considerably less
expensive than buying a Full version of XP.

If you make a CD that contains a Win98 folder with the set of cab files
in it, I think that should be accepted in evidence

Upgrade checks out a number of the cab files; not the EULA file you seem
to be thinking of. That would be much too easy to fake

Try by starting from DOS: & if WINDOWS is in C you can make:

c:\windows\options\cab\setup.exe

W98 reinstalls
