xp to xp transfer wizard will not work

I am configurin some new laptops and trying to transfer files from 3 year old
laptops that were originally set up with WIN XP Pro to a new laptop with Win
XP Pro.

I used the old laptop to create a file with the old file transfer wizard,
however the new laptops error message that they will not recognize the
previous version--may be a difference between 32 bit and 64 bit?????????
New laptops have an embedded version of XP, so i t will not let me create a
file transfer disc to use on the old computer. Could not find a current file
transfer wizard to down load.

OEM says its a Microsoft problem, Microsft support wants $35 per hour. Bad
deal.

Did you try just networking two of them together and then moving and/or
copying the files one to the other?

I set them up in my home network, but these PC's belong to a state wide
group. so each is set up a little differently.

I did access a poorly documented KB896344 which gave me a hotfix (not
documented you need to run it on the old computer) so a single login setting
on the old PC seemed to run, but now I am unsure what the wizard copied and
wht it didn't copy
