Is there a NG for desktop themes?

I find that the supplied XP themes give too bright a screen .
Turning screen Brightness etc down gives a very faded look.
I notice that many professional services operate their terminals
with a black screen and white fonts.

There are 18 options under Display/Appearance/Advanced /Items
Trying to achieve the Black/White appearance with some of
the adjustments has confounded me.

If you change the windows and buttons entry on the appearance tab of your
desktop properties to Windows Classic Style you can then create your own
theme with any colors you want, rather than picking the XP theme that bugs
you the least.

I have just done that and now have a better screen,but not really what I
want.
I did find the 18 options under Display/Appearance/Advanced /Items a bit
confusing,
not knowing the function of some of them.
