XP TASKBAR SETTINGS

Hi

Why is it that even though my task bar is set to 'auto hide' unused icons,
and most of the time does this, sometimes it doesn't and the arrow
disappears. I uncheck the setting, click apply, check it again, click apply,
but the only thing that then sorts it out is restoring my PC to an earlier
time. This is ridiculous!
