XP System Restore will not work

I have attempted to restore my system to a number of checkpoint dates but
when it reboots it keeps saying that restore was unsuccessful. I have a
problem wih my current XP so I really need to restore to an earlier version.

Any help will be appreciated

What problem do you have with XP? It may be solvable without having to use
SR.

If you have that error message, System Restore files(s) may be corrupted.
To repair SR, you can turn it off/on, but you will lose any existing
checkpoints.

Hi

I installed latest Lavasoft Ad-aware SE and also Spamware. One or the other
caused performance to suffer. Removed both bu found performance still a
problem. Ran Norton check up and found a number of errors. Attempted to
restore to earlier checkpoint and could not.

Can I re-install windows without losing other items?
