XP style start menu unresponsive to mouse clicks

On a brand new Toshiba laptop with XP Home, I'm noticing this odd occurrence
where, if I choose the XP-style start menu, there is no response to left or
right mouse clicks (although the mouse will highlight and sub-menus fly
out). If I change over to the classic-style, then I can open files/progs
with left clicks and get context menus with the right.

Any speculation on what may be causing this?

Hi Bruce,

Right click the Start button, select Properties, Customize. Scroll through
the options on the Advanced tab and put the check mark back in Enable
dragging and dropping.
 
Thanks, Kelly. Since it wouldn't drag and drop to the desktop either, that
would be it. Must have deselected by accident.
