One day when I started up my computer, It stopped
booting up. I saw the picture on the desktop but nothing
else, no icons, no nothing. I started up in Safe Mode and
it booted up normally like nothing was wrong. I ran a
virus scanner and found the blaster virus. I got rid of
that with the program and it did not do anything. I
bought a really good disk doctor but cannot install it et
alone run it in safe mode. I am willing to do anything
except format the information on my computer. I tried to
re-install XP but I do not know how to format just windows
XP and leave my programs. I have to write a paper for
class and any help will be appreciated!! PLEASE HELP
ANYONE!

Thanks

Rick

.

I agree with this poast.

If you have a XP cd do a repair install. Set your bios to boot from the cd
and reboot. Follow the direction given.

You can perform a Repair install which will leave all of your data and files
in place. Read the steps carefully.

Before you start, go into the BIOS and set your CD drive as the first boot
device

Boot the computer from the XP CD-ROM.

When the computer starts from the CD, the system checks your hardware and
then prompts you to select one of the following options:

To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

Press ENTER.

Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.

A box lists your current Windows XP installation, and then the system
prompts you to select one of the following options:

To repair the selected Windows XP installation, press R.
To continue installing a fresh copy of Windows XP without repairing, press
ESC.

Press R to start the automatic repair process.

After repairing Windows XP, you will need to re-download all updates,
starting with SP1.
