My favorite OS is Windows 98 SE.

I rate the following operating systems from best to worst (in numbered
order):

1. Windows 98 SE
2. Windows 98
3. Windows ME
4. Windows 95
5. Windows 3.0
6. Windows 3.0a, 3.1, 3.11
7. DOS
8. Microsoft's new crap [XPs, NT, 2000, and other non-dos based
systems] (they all suck equally)
9. Commodores
10. All OSes other than Macintosh, Apple, and whats mentioned above
11. Macintosh
12. All Apple computers other than Mac and Apple II
13. Apple II

I really don't understand why Microsoft replaced its high-quality
DOS-based windows OS's (from 3x to ME) with the garbage of its new OS
operating, which runs purely on unreliable [censored]-coded software.
Hardware is so much better than software.

Hardware can do its own processing where as software can't. Software is
susceptible to altering of its codings. Hardware isn't.

It seems microsoft is regressing to worse and worser technology. They
started of fanstastic. DOS a nice beginning, leading to a better Win
3.0, which BTW is infinite times better than even XP Professional.

Microsoft regressed [decreased in quality] from Win 3.0 to Win 3.1 and
subsequently to Win 3.11, then improved to 95, 98, and 98 SE. Then,
they slightly regressed to Windows ME. Windows ME was the last of
Microsoft's beautiful heaven. Then a nightmare began. This was the
ending of friendly DOS systems and the starting of nasty software-based
systems [i.e. Win 2000, NT, XP home, and XP professional].

BIG MISTAKE!

Microsoft, please bring back your clean efficient hardware-based
systems [from DOS to Win ME] and progress with that technology. In
addition, please dump that no-good GS SW Wave-Synth. It is one of the
factors further slowing my already slow XP Professional system.

With all due respect to you, I must say that after running all these
operating systems over the years, XP is by far the best, most stable of all
the operating systems produced, as compared to other older OS' like 98, 95,
3.1, 3.22, 2.0 or whatever. Especially with SP1 and SP2 installed. And yes,
I did use Commadore vic20, and C64 systems in the 1980's...

Granted each operating system had its problems in its time. But I remember
98, and 95 always crashing, and with great problems with companies drivers
not working and having to hopefully be updated.

For the most part, XP had most of its driver issues taken care of before its
initial release, or by the SP1 updates.

I have not had a major XP crash since I updated to SP1, and that was mainly
because at the time, I was trying to run Windows 98 software on it. As for
DOS, it was a techie operating system that the masses could not understand.
Windows did away with the requirement for you average, illiterate person to
have to take the time to learn programming to do what they needed to do. The
average person doesnt want to have learn how to type in a msdos command to
load up a program!

So Windows basically overshadowed MSDOS because it was so user friendly...
DOS is gone, Windows is here to stay, and you should stop crying about it!

So after 20+ years of dealing with MS OS', I must say that your comments are
not rational, and I dont see your logical reasons on why XP sucks! Have a

I really don't understand why Microsoft replaced its high-quality
DOS-based windows OS's (from 3x to ME) with the garbage of its new OS
operating, which runs purely on unreliable [censored]-coded software.
Hardware is so much better than software.

Hardware can do its own processing where as software can't. Software is
susceptible to altering of its codings. Hardware isn't.

It seems microsoft is regressing to worse and worser technology. They
started of fanstastic. DOS a nice beginning, leading to a better Win
3.0, which BTW is infinite times better than even XP Professional.

Microsoft regressed [decreased in quality] from Win 3.0 to Win 3.1 and
subsequently to Win 3.11, then improved to 95, 98, and 98 SE. Then,
they slightly regressed to Windows ME. Windows ME was the last of
Microsoft's beautiful heaven. Then a nightmare began. This was the
ending of friendly DOS systems and the starting of nasty software-based
systems [i.e. Win 2000, NT, XP home, and XP professional].

BIG MISTAKE!

Microsoft, please bring back your clean efficient hardware-based
systems [from DOS to Win ME] and progress with that technology. In
addition, please dump that no-good GS SW Wave-Synth. It is one of the
factors further slowing my already slow XP Professional system.

hybrids produced to suit only the gaming market. Had this group been

Hm. I never said DOS is better than Windows. Most Windows OSes are far
superior to DOS, excluding the obviously-stinky NT, XP, and 2000 kakaa.

BTW, Let me explain one of the major reasons I like WIN98SE.

Creative Music Synth [220] = SB16 ISA's FM synth = my favorite MIDI
synth.

I don't care for other MIDI synths.

Sample-playback MIDI synths are the worst audio equipment ever. They
are stinky, tickly, itchy, creepy, irritating, farty, hissy,
terrifying, disgusting, and annoying.

I like the audio quality of Creative Music Synth [220]. It sounds so
warm, fresh, bright, rejuvenating, lively and effervescent.

I called Creative Labs and asked them what is the latest Windows OS
that supports SB16 ISA. They said Win ME is the newest WinOS that is
still compatible with Creative's ISA cards. However, Win ME is more
susceptible to errors than WIN98SE. That is why WIN98SE is my favorite
OS.

How many new sound cards have you tried ?

A lot. None have Creative Music Synth [220]

I just wish the audio communties would revert back to real,
non-emulated SB16 FM synthesis and upgrade from there.

FM emulation [or any audio emulation for that matter] is
sample-playback. Sample playback synth = human kakaa

SB Live stinks like human kakaa. It has no real music synthesis. Its
all kakaa-like emulation.

SB16 PCI has the disadvantages of SB16 ISA [e.g. limitation to 16-bit
resolution] without the advantages [e.g. *real* FM synthesis]. All SB16
PCIs should be burned in oxyacetylene flames.

AFAIK, some PCI cards contain something called "Yamaha FM synth". I
abhor it because it is emulation. The Avance sound card has "Avance FM
synth", but its also a real stinker as it isn't a real synth. The evil
PCI loves to inflict pain on other types of slot -- ISA being the
unfortunate victim. PCI cards don't contain real FM synth.

Anything kind of 'OPL' a PCI would have, would be emulation. The only
'OPL' any PCI cards have is OPL emulation. Emulation stinks like human
diarrhea kakaa foam. I don't understand why a PCI card cannot contain a
real FM synth like Creative Music Synth [220]. Is there a technical
barrier to this?

I can easily tell the difference between the freshness, brightness,
warmth, and liveliness *real* synth from the stale, cacophonous -- or
rather KAKAA-FOAMous -- fart of emulation.

Creative Music Synth [220] = SB16 ISA's FM synth = my favorite MIDI
synth.

I don't care for other MIDI synths.

Creative Music Synth [220] is:

2. Digital

I wish that a gang of persons who support Creative Music Synth [220]
would attack Creative Technology and force them to make hardware
versions of Creative Music Synth [220] upgraded from 16-bit to 32-bit
and from 44.1 Khz to 192 Khz. And from there, keep on upgrading!

If Creative Technology refuses, I hope the CMS220-advocating gang ties
up the people who make up that company and torturously force them to
repeatedly listen to sample-playback MIDI synths and emulation until
those Creative personnel are annoyed with burning headaches and are
deathly desperate for an escape. Only then will the people of Creative
Technology do the right thing -- make upgraded versions of Creative
Music Synth [220].

A rich spoiled-rotten company like Creative deserves to be heinously
hijacked and forced to do their duties.

I feel like torching the chips of sample-playback synths with
oxyacetylene flames to distort their audio output.

Anyone who respectfully uses any sample-playback MIDI synth needs to be
put in a mental hospital ASAP for his/her own good as he is a danger
to him/herself.

Creative Music Synth [220] is my favorite MIDI synth.

Its those sample-playback synths that are crap.

Sadly most MIDI magazines advertise the kakaa-stinky sample playback as
a good thing often referring to them as "wavetables". These sick
marketers call sample-playback synthesis "realistic sounding".

Sample-playbacks synths are nothing more than the sound of a stinky
fart emitted from a human colon.

I've been looking hard for true FM synths. No luck. Most PCI cards have
OPL emulation. I hate FM emulation. FM emulation -- much like any
sample-playback synthesis -- is to the ear what human kakaa is to the
nose.

I want *real* FM synthesis not some stinky trashy out-of-a-human-behind
emulation.

Those stinky-f==king marketers who refer to sample-playback synthesis

electronic nanobots that will search for sample playback MIDI synths in
any part of the world and attach to the digital chips of
sample-playback MIDI synths. These nanobots should contain magnetic
receivers that will extract any random enviromental magnetic audio
signals between -- and including -- 2 khz and 50 khz [excluding spikes,
square-waves, white noise, brown noise, pink noise and bass sounds].
The nanobots then amplify those signals to the point where they would
significantly interfere with -- and cause inductive crosstalk in -- the
audio signals in the digital electronic chips of the sample-playback
MIDI synths.

That way all companies will be forced to make *real* synths and the
listeners will be forced to adapt to the excellent audio quality of
*real* synths. For those who miss their stinky human kakaa foam of
sample-playback synths, well, f--k them!

I try playing Creative Music Synth [220], through my so-called 'karaoke
voice cancellor' -- which inverts the phase of one stereo chanel [right
or left] and then combines it the other channel -- which results in
anything identical in both the left and right channels being removed. I
get a mono of what was different in the left and right channels.

When I play Creative Music Synth [220] audio through the
voice-cancellor, it sounds more treble, sharper, brighter, warmer, and
crisper than when I don't use the voice-cancellor.

And just what would it have been if, indeed, Creative Labs were not
so lazy and had written 32-bit drivers for its SB16 sound cards? It
would have worked wonderfully with Windows NT 4.0 and then continue
through Windows 2000 and into XP. My favorite sound card is Turtle
Beach just because Creative Labs had failed to write proper drivers
for Windows NT. Or, IOW, your list would be different had Creative
Labs had written the 32-bit sound drivers and my favorite sound card
would have still been the SB64 AWE's.

I really don't understand why Microsoft replaced its high-quality
DOS-based windows OS's (from 3x to ME) with the garbage of its new OS
operating, which runs purely on unreliable [censored]-coded software.
Hardware is so much better than software.

Hardware can do its own processing where as software can't. Software is
susceptible to altering of its codings. Hardware isn't.

It seems microsoft is regressing to worse and worser technology. They
started of fanstastic. DOS a nice beginning, leading to a better Win
3.0, which BTW is infinite times better than even XP Professional.

Microsoft regressed [decreased in quality] from Win 3.0 to Win 3.1 and
subsequently to Win 3.11, then improved to 95, 98, and 98 SE. Then,
they slightly regressed to Windows ME. Windows ME was the last of
Microsoft's beautiful heaven. Then a nightmare began. This was the
ending of friendly DOS systems and the starting of nasty software-based
systems [i.e. Win 2000, NT, XP home, and XP professional].

BIG MISTAKE!

Microsoft, please bring back your clean efficient hardware-based
systems [from DOS to Win ME] and progress with that technology. In
addition, please dump that no-good GS SW Wave-Synth. It is one of the
factors further slowing my already slow XP Professional system.

Interesting. However, there are many who still consider MS-DOS 6.22
to be the best of the Microsoft non-Windows operating systems and
then Windows 2000-SP4. Windows 9X, including 98, are mere 16/32-bit
hybrids produced to suit only the gaming market. Had this group been
agile enough and quick enough to write the 32-bit drivers for their
peripherals and games, there might not even have been Windows 95/98.
And as for Windows 98, it only became a good product after adopting
the Windows NT kernel. In my ranking, it would follow Windows 2000.

those sick f--ks hostage and forcing them to listen to sample playback
MIDI synths they put in their scumslum PCI soundcards. I want to drive
the bastards insane with kakaa-quality audio from their sample playback

The least Creative Technology Ltd could do is put a *real* 32-bit, 192

Creative Technology is the hardware manufacturer of Creative Music
Synth [220].

As I said before, I've asked Creative Technology about Creative Music
Synth [220] -- through a variety of means, including but not limited
to phone, fax, and their online tech support -- only to be totally-
ignored. I asked them about this for the past 5 years. Never got a
decent answer.

Recently, I asked in the Creative Technology http://
forums.creative.com as politely as I could. I waited a couple of
weeks. No response. I asked again as politely as I could, waited
another few weeks. Again no answers. I tried for the third and last
time as politely as I could. AGAIN, no answers!!!

I then got impatient and aggressive. I started venting my anger in
those forums. I used bad words. As a result, they've permanently
banned my IP and I can no longer access their forums. What a buncha
jerks. Yes, I did get carried away with the foul language but hey, can
ya blame me?

I would like a real Creative Music Synth [220]. Doesn't have to be in
a sound card. It could be a keyboard, a MIDI box or in any other form.

Sadly, its not gonna happen because the mechanism by which Creative
Music Synth [220] is kept classified as top-secret by Creative
Technology Ltd. CMS220 is no longer made yet the sick @$$ company
still keeps the working of CMS220 a secret.
