How to use MCE2005 Remote control with XP?

Hi,

I've been using Media Center 2005, but have found various problems with
it.

I'm therefore trying to use some similar MediaPlayer/PVR software
called GBPVR, installed on a separate Windows XP box.

My problem is, I can't get my Media Center 2005 (Version 2a, Model
1039) Remote Control to work with Windows XP (even though I can see
from loads of posts that other folk have got this working.)

The XP Pro box has SP2 installed, and I've installed the KB912024 patch
and rebooted.

I then plug my IR Receiver into the USB port, and XP automatically
detects and installs it - I get the following entries in Device
Manager:
- Human Interface Devices (various entries including Microsoft eHome
Infrared Transceiver)
- Universal Serial Bus controllers (eHome Infrared Receiver)

None of these entries has info or error icons.

When I press any button on the remote the red light on the receiver
flashes, but neither GBPVR nor any other Windows app responds.

I've tried the changes "Possible fixes for IR receiver or remote
problems after installing Update Rollup 2 for MCE 2005" at
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/10/24/484423.aspx
and
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/08/31/458928.aspx

but no success.

Has anyone got any other suggestions how to fix this please?

Any advice very much appreciated

Hi Uncle Grumpy,

I posted in this group because I'm installing on a Windows XP box.

I've seen others post in Media Center with Media questions, but
installed on Windows XP - and being referred to this group.

I'm just trying to use a remote control with Windows XP to control some
apps in my XP installation, so thought this group might help.

Thanks

Note to self : Don't really on Remote Desktop to accurately represent
what's going on in the Remote PC.

The issue here was that I was using Remote Desktop to view the PC on
which I was testing the Remote Control. I thought that RD would show
an IE window scrolling up and down when I pressed the appropriate
buttons on the remote. I was obviously wrong, because when I connected
a monitor to the Remote box and viewed it directly, the Remote Control
was working fine.

Sorted
