XP still refuses to see web

Howdy

I'm looking for ANY help of ANY kind... there's a series of posts under the title "XP PC won't see web", so I won't repeat all the details here. Basically, I've got a home network of 3 PCs running Win98, Win2K, and XP Home, wire-connected through a Gigafast router to a RoadRunner connection. The XP won't see the web (it does see the router), and has intermittent loss of connection with the other two PCs. And I'm at the end of my rope

Could it possibly be the NIC in the XP machine? Or should I just give up trying to make XP play nice

I have not seen any of the earlier posts that you mention.
Has this XP Home computer been updated with all XP critical updates?
Is there an Anti Virus program installed? If so, which one?
Is there a third-party Firewall program installed? If so, which one?
If the XP critical updates are current, I suggest connecting the XP computer
directly to the cable modem instead of going through the router, and see if
it can then browse the Internet. If the XP critical updates are not current,
then you MUST enable the XP Internet Connection Firewall on the NIC's
connection BEFORE directly connecting to the cable modem or make sure
that the third-party Firewall is functioning before connecting to the cable modem.

Once directly connected to the cable modem can you then browse the Internet?
If so, you should immediately go to the Windows Update site and get all critical
updates installed (be sure to temporarily disable the AV first).

If you still are unable to browse the Internet:

(Press Enter after each command)

START > RUN > cmd

cd\

ipconfig /all

(What IP Address do you get for the Ethernet adapter?)

(If it is an APIPA in the form of 169.254.x.x - )

(What happens when you run this command?)

ipconfig /renew

(Please post back with results)

All FIXED!! I installed a 3COM network adapter, and everything works perfectly. Guess it's Realtek I don't like, and not XP..
