My HP laptop wouldn't get past XP Welcome page despite
rebooting several times.
Took it into a local computer service center who reloaded
XP. I have now appear to have lost all of my original
settings (not so important) and data stored in My
Documents (very important since I hadn't backed up for
some time)
Is there a distinct chance that they may still be on the
hard drive? I have not yet registered the new version of
XP. Would that help?
Thanks in anticipation

If the computer store formatted or partitioned the drive first, they will
not be on there.

Although you could call the perosn that did it as they would know more about
it.

However, I am VERY surprised that they would just re-install everything.
Someone that knows what they are doing always can get a system started,
even if at the bare minimum. I dont know if you would want to go back to
this same place.
