Windows XP home, difference between PC & Notebook install

I have an installation cd and recovery cd's, never installed and not
registered yet, for XP home SP1. The label on the installation cd says "hp
notebook". My question is...is there any important difference between the PC
XP and the notebook XP? I have a PC with windows ME I'd like to upgrade to
XP.

In general, the "recovery CD" will check to see if
you're installing to the HP notebook it was licensed to
and refuse to install to any other.

I would imagine that this has been hacked around, though.

The one labeled "hp notebook" is likely an HP OEM version that will only
clean install on a HP notebook.

None whatsoever.

You're problem lies in that fact that you've got an installation set
specifically designed to install on the HP Notebook computer with which
it was originally sold. As an anti-theft mechanism, that CD has also
been designed so that it cannot be used on any other conputer.

If you want to upgrade that WinME PC to WinXP, you'll first need to
purchase a legitimate license.
