XP startup problems

My computer recently froze when the monitor was unplugged and since will not
startup. It goes through normal boot sequence to the XP loading page... then
nothing happens, the screen stays black.

I've tried re-covering from the XP CD but at the end of re-installing it
reboots and the above still happens! And when re-covering from CD it gives
the following error message aswell:

"The software you are installing for this hardware:
NVIDIA Ge Force MX/MX400 (Microsoft Corp.)
has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows
XP.

Continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabilize the
correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future.
Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact
the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing."

Also tried F8 on startup and starting up in safe mode.. which works but when
i try to restore the setting to the last time it worked it will only give me
the option of recent dates and neither work!!

PLEASE HELP!!! jsfroudemedia"at"hotmail.com

J,

Can you get to 'System Restore' from Safe Mode?
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

That does not matter. That is a driver for your graphics card, and they
very often have not been put through the Windows Labs - a long and
expensive business for the makers. But you might usefully boot hitting
F8 as BIOS info goes to black, and from the menu take the Base Video (or
Enable VGA) option. That will avoid the driver, which is quite possibly
the trouble. If that boots, then go to
www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
and get the latest ones for XP - download and install, ignoring any
similar complaint

Yes I can get to the System Restore but it only gives me the option of two
dates... both of which were while the computer has not been staring up and
neither of which work....!!??
